Timo Werner signed for Chelsea from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window of 2020 in the presence of Frank Lampard. After being in great form with his German club, scoring 24 Bundesliga goals in the 19/20 season, his start to the Premier League lacked a similar trend in goals. After the manager couldn’t get the best out of Werner and his compatriot Kai Havertz, he was sacked and replaced by German coach Thomas Tuchel. Werner ended the 20/21 season with 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, which was considered to be a very bad season according to his standards. To be fair to him, he did have more than 10 goals overturned by VAR alone in the Premier League, and he wasn’t on penalty duties like he was at RB Leipzig.

It is true that Werner was signed by Chelsea for the goals he scored, which he was unable to do at large in his first season. But, he was able to provide a lot of assists in his first season, and was often applauded by manager Tuchel for his hard work and runs in the game. It was his run that took the defenders away from Havertz in the Champions League final for the winning goal. This season also, Werner has looked sharp with his runs and passing, and the Blues fans will hope that the duo of Werner and Lukaku both start scoring and form a deadly partnership upfront.
So far this season, Werner has scored two goals in all competitions and has not started most games for The Blues. Everyone has stopped talking about Werner since the signing of Lukaku, and it seems like everyone has forgotten how good he was in his time at RB Leipzig. If Werner gets even close to the form he was in at Leipzig, along with Romelu Lukaku in the side, Chelsea can be a very dangerous attacking unit in Europe, that everyone would be afraid of.
