Premier League Stats: Burnley vs Chelsea

Burnley started in a 4-4-2 formation, with Wout Weghorst and Jay Rodriguez leading the line for the home team.

By looking at the average position of the starting XI, we can see that Connor Roberts was the more attacking full-back in the team. The manager replaced both strikers later in the second half.

Chelsea started in a 3-4-3 formation, with Saul and Reece James operating as the two full-backs. Kai Havertz once again led the line for Chelsea in the Premier League.

The average position of the starting XI shows that the front three played a lot closer to each other. Ruben Loftus-Cheek replaced Reece James in the wing-back position towards the end of the match.

Chelsea had 73% of the ball in possession and created 27 positional attacks. Burnley created more positional attacks but were unable to hit the target in the match. The Hornets made more recoveries inside the opposition’s half and made four tackles.

Antonio Rudiger attempted three shots and 16 passes into the opposition’s final third. Connor Roberts made the highest number of recoveries inside the opposition’s half, along with 16 passes attempted in the final third. Christian Pulisic attempted eight dribbles and attempted two shots in the match.

Burnley attempted six shots and none of them were on target. Of these six shots, only two were attempted from inside the opposition’s penalty box.

Chelsea players attempted 11 shots, and five of them were on target. The Blues attempted five shots from inside the opposition’s penalty box, and four were on target.

The xT timeline shows that Burnley created more threats in the first half, especially towards the end of the first half. Chelsea created more threats towards the start of the second half and attempted four shots in the first ten minutes of the half.

Chelsea’s threat creation zones were also towards the wider sides and more from the left side. Reece James, right wing-back, was the attacking player who created the highest threat rate.

Timo Werner came off the bench and created the highest threat from dribbles in the match. Christian Pulisic attempted eight dribbles but was unable to create enough threats.

Josh Brownhill contested the highest number of defensive duels in the match. He contested 16 duels and lost nine of them.

The Clarets won eight aerial duels in the middle. James Tarkowski contested six duels and won four of them.

The home team once again won 17 loose ball duels in the middle. James Tarkowski contested nine duels and lost one.

Chelsea won 13 defensive duels in the defensive third. Christian Pulisic contested the highest number of duels for his side.

Once again, Chelsea won most of their duels in the final third. Their goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy, contested three aerial duels with a 100% win rate.

The Blues won nine loose ball duels in the middle. Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic contested nine duels each for the away team.

Burnley won five corners and three from the right side. The home team also won three free-kicks inside the opposition’s half, and one free-kick was attempted as a cross from the left side.

The Blues won two corners – one each from both sides. Chelsea only won three free-kicks inside the opposition’s half and none of them in the final third.

Chelsea turned the momentum in the second half and scored four goals. They are now unbeaten in their last four league games and are closing the gap at the top of the table.
