Chelsea had a total of 24 attempts, but only four of them were on target, scoring just one time from an xG of 2.53. Burnley had just five shots, a couple of which were between the sticks. They scored once with an xG of 1.08. The home side dominated the possession heavily. Ross Barkley had the most shots (4) during the match, while Matej Vydra had the highest xG of 0.88 among all. Thiago Silva had the most final third passes with 11 tied along with Charlie Taylor and Antonio Rudiger.
The Blues were extremely wasteful in front of the goal. Most of their shots were taken inside the box, scoring their only goal from there. However, they were not clinical at all, failing to keep the majority of their shots on target without troubling the keeper.
Burnley did not manage to create a lot of chances while going forward. They had a few shots inside the box, where they scored the solitary goal. Other attempts were mostly off-target, except one, which was saved by the keeper. The xT timeline shows that Chelsea had the match under their grip for the majority of the game. Burnley had occasional threats in the first half, but the Blues took the lead within the first 35 minutes. They failed to add anything to their lead for the rest of the game, which allowed the Clarets to make a comeback late into the second half and take away one important point. Both Antonio Rudiger and Reece James played the most passes with 86 each, while Rudiger received the most with 71, as Chelsea dominated 68% of possession. The Clarets had 32% of the ball and Charlie Taylor attempted the most passes (45) as well as received the most, with 25. Chelsea played most of their passes in the final third near the penalty area, attempting six smart passes, a couple of them being successful. They delivered most of their crosses from the right wing with James playing in the ball nine times. Burnley played the majority of the passes on the left flank near midfield, attempting a couple of smart passes, with one of them being successful. They did not play a lot of crosses into the box. The home side had the highest xT creation zones near the right-wing outside the penalty area. Hudson-Odoi was the most efficient passer with 95.65% accuracy. Reece James was the most threatening passer with 0.61 xT, while Ben Chilwell was the best dribbler with 0.075 xT. The away side had the most xT creation zones on the left wing. James Tarkowski was the best passer among the ranks with 96.30% accuracy. Charlie Taylor had the most xT from passes with 0.53 while also leading the charts for dribbles with 0.043 xT. Chelsea lost a lot of defensive duels. Jorginho and Huson-Odoi both lost the most duels with four each. Thiago Silva was the best performer with three wins. They were way better when it came to aerial duels. Andreas Christensen was the stand-out performer with eight successful duels. Rudiger was impressive with all four wins. The Blues were impressive in terms of 50-50 duels. James, Thiago Silva and Kante all won three duels each, while Chilwell was impressive with all wins. Burnley had a mixed performance in terms of defensive duels. Josh Brownhill won the most duels with four, while also losing out eight times. Westwood was unimpressive. They were not much impressive in the air too. Tarkowski won the most with five duels. Chris Wood lost eight times higher up the pitch. The Clarets were poor in loose ball recoveries as well. Lowton and Westwood lost all of their duels, while Cornet lost five times upfront.
Chelsea were lucky this weekend, as the other results in the Premier League went in their favor. Despite the draw, they still have their three-point lead at the top of the table. The Blues have, at times, faced a problem getting goals against packed defenses, and it was seen against Burnley. The Clarets now find themselves in the relegation zone at 18th, two points behind Watford.
