UEFA Champions League 2021/22 Stats: Chelsea vs Lille

Thomas Tuchel dropped Romelu Lukaku to the bench, and Kai Havertz started in his position. Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic played behind the striker.

Chelsea initially started in a 3-4-2-1 formation, but the manager made some changes in the second half to strengthen the midfield. He changed the formation to 3-5-2.

The away team started in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Jonathan David leading the line. Former Swansea City man Renato Sanches also started for the visitors.

Lille played a very high attacking line, and the average position of seven players was within the opposition’s half.

Chelsea had more possession of the ball, but it was Lille who created more attacks. The Blues had a high xG rate and attempted 24 passes into the opposition’s penalty area with a 70% success rate. Lille created more positional attacks and attempted more shots towards the opposition’s goal.

Kai Havertz attempted the most shots for the home team and had the highest xG rate in the match. Lille’s Xeka had a good game in the midfield. He attempted two shots towards the opposition’s goal, made seven recoveries inside the opposition’s half, and won three aerial duels.

Chelsea players attempted nine shots, and eight of them were attempted from inside the opposition’s penalty box. The shot accuracy of the team was 44.44%, and one shot was attempted from inside the opposition’s 6-yard box.

Lille players attempted 13 shots, and two of them were on target. Of the 13 shots, four were attempted from inside the opposition’s penalty box, and one shot was on target.

The Blues created a lot of threats at the start of both halves. Tuchel’s men attempted six shots in the first half, and the opposition team attempted two more shots than they did. Benjamin Andre and Sven Botman were the only two Lille players who had an attempt on target.

Veteran defender Thiago Silva attempted 80 passes, and 24 of them were towards Antonio Rudiger. Andreas Christensen was on the receiving end of most passes.

Chelsea created threats from wider areas in the final third and the highest threats were created from the right side. N’Golo Kante created the highest threat with 55 attempted passes.

Kai Havertz attempted the most dribbles. His five dribbles created an xT of 0.029. Hakim Ziyech created the highest threat rate.

Lille’s threat creation zones were also towards the wider sides, and Mehmet Celik created the highest threats from these passes.

Renato Sanches attempted the most dribbles in the match. His ten dribbles created an xT of 0.062 from dribbles. Jonathan Bamba was effective with his dribbling and created the highest threats with six dribbles attempted.

Chelsea players contested and won most of their defensive duels towards the wider sides. Cesar Azpilicueta contested the most dribbles and lost six of them.

The Blues won most of their aerial duels in the defensive third. Antonio Rudiger contested six duels and only lost one of them.

Chelsea players won 12 loose ball duels in the middle of the pitch. Kai Havertz contested 11 duels and lost four of them.
