Chelsea were stunned at home after Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick to register a 3-1 win for Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. Los Blancos have taken a massive lead ahead of the second leg and look like the favourites to advance to the next round.

The home team started in a 3-4-3 formation, with Kai Havertz once again leading the line and was supported by Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount.
Chelsea’s manager made some substitutions in the second half, and his side shifted to a four-at-the-back formation. Chelsea played in a 4-2-3-1 formation towards the end of the match.

Karim Benzema scored a hat-trick and attempted the most shots for Real Madrid. Kai Havertz attempted the most shots for Chelsea and won the most aerial duels in the match. Antonio Rudiger attempted the highest number of passes into the final third and made four recoveries inside the opposition’s half.
The Blues attempted 20 shots, ten from inside the opposition’s penalty box. The Blues only managed to hit one shot on target from inside the box, and that was converted into a goal.
Real Madrid attempted eight shots, and six of them were on target. Of these eight shots, six were attempted from inside the opposition’s penalty box, and four were on target.

Ferland Mendy, Toni Kroos, and Casimiro won two defensive duels each for the visitors.

Federico Valverde contested seven loose ball duels for his side and only won one.
The Blues won five corners and three from the right side. They won two free-kicks inside the opposition’s half, and one was attempted as a cross into the opposition’s penalty box.

Real Madrid were clinical with their finishing, and Karim Benzema gave a brilliant individual performance to secure a comfortable victory in the first leg. The Blues failed to hit the target from inside the opposition’s penalty box and were poor with their finishing. Now they will look to overcome the deficit in the next meeting.
