Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea, the defending champions of the UEFA Champions League, will be hosting Swedish outfit Malmo FF at Stamford Bridge got the thrift Group G game of the 21-22 UCL Season. Chelsea had an okayish start to their campaign with a not so convincing 1-0 win over Porto at home, followed by a visit and 1-0 defeat at Juventus. Malmo FF themselves have not had a good start to their campaign, having lost to Juventus and Zenit in their opening to games. The match ended in a 4-0 win for Chelsea, with an early goal from Christensen, two goals from the penalty kick specialist Jorginho, a goal for substitute striker Kai Havertz. Chelsea’s both striker Romelu Lulalu and Timo Werner and limped off in the first half, and losing both strikers can be a big injury concern for Thomas Tuchel.

They played with an extremely high defensive line with the centre-backs pushing up near the centre while all other players spent time mostly in the other half.

They spent most of the time in their half with a very low defensive line with almost all their players predominantly in that half.
Chelsea had 18 attempts in total with seven of them on target scoring four goals with an xG of 2.68. Malmo had only two shots failing to keep a single one on target, naturally not scoring any goal from an xG of 0.21. The Blues dominated the possession heavily.
Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell had the most shots in the match(3) while Jorginho had the highest xG of 1.52. Thiago Silva had the most final third passes with 19.
The home side had a lot of shots during the match, mostly inside the box. They scored all of their goals from there but were not very clinical in front of goal. They won the match comprehensively but the majority of their shots were way off target.
Bonke Innocent attempted the most passes(29) and Sergio Pena received the most(20) as Malmo had only 28% of the ball.
The Blues played most of their passes near the right wing, attempting three smart passes, all being unsuccessful. They delivered most of their crosses from the right side of the box with Mount registering seven crosses to his name.
Chelsea had the most xT near the centre and in the penalty area- on both sides. Ngolo Kante was the most clinical passer of the ball with 96.23% accuracy.
Mason Mount was the most threatening passer with an xT of 0.81 which was certainly lowered due to lots of mispassing. Timo Werner was the best dribbler with 0.128 xT.
The visitors created the most xT on the left wing. Eric Larsson was the best passer with 89.47% accuracy.
Sergio Pena had the highest xT from passes with 0.15 while Jo Berget lead the chart for dribbles with an xT of 0.026 which was lowered due to unsuccessful attempts.
Chelsea did not engage in a lot of defensive duels at the back while losing a lot of them higher up the pitch. Ben Chilwell won the most duels with three while Jorginho and Mount both lost out on five occasions each.
They were way better in terms of aerial duels performance. Thiago Silva with his towering presence won four duels at the back while Saul Niguez won all of his four duels.
It was a mixed performance in 50-50 ball recoveries. Ngolo Kante won the most with four successful outcomes while Jorginho lost four duels. Chilwell lost all of his duels.
Malmo won the majority of their defensive duels. Lasse Nelsen won the most with five successful outcomes. Eric Larsson lost out on four occasions.
It was a mediocre performance from them in the air. Berget won the most among the ranks with three. Colak lost four duels higher up the pitch while Nalic lost all of his duels.
They were impressive in terms of 50-50 duels. Rakip and Abdul Malik both won all of their duels. Innocent and Pena lost two each.
The Blues came out with a deserving victory in spite of some disappointments like losing Werner and Lukaku on the same day. On the other hand, Juventus have beaten Zenit to go to the top of the group with 9 points, Chelsea are second with six, while Zenit are third with 3 points. Malmo FF are yet to win a UCL game this season.
