Chelsea‘s transfer policy has focused more on bringing young talents to the Stamford Bridge. Most of the players that they have signed in the last two windows are under 25. In January 2023, they signed an English winger from PSV. Noni Madueke came from the Dutch giants for a reported fee of around £28.5 million. He came to London on a seven-and-a-half-year contract.
The Blues have a lot of bench strength and a lot of depth in the squad. There is a lot of competition among the players and that brings the best out of them. Madueke won the UEFA Euro U-21 with England in the summer. However, his game time has been limited, mainly due to Cole Palmer’s signing. Noni Madueke has impressed in the past and still shows a lot of promise whenever he gets a bit of game time. A look at why this Englishman deserves more playing time.
Promising right-winger
Noni Madueke has played nine games in the English Premier League this season. Overall, the 21-year-old has spent 424 minutes on the field for the Blues this season. Madueke comes from the bench and averages 5.7 progressive runs per 90 minutes. Most of his runs start from the edge and continue until he gets to the edge of the penalty box. The dribble success rate is 55% in the current season.
The 21-year-old Englishman attracts more and more defenders. He has the skill to get past the defenders and has won 10 fouls. These include two penalty wins for the Blues. Madueke is still young and will likely improve his dribbling skills.
Getting into dangerous attacking areas allows the player to deliver some passes into the dangerous areas. Madueke has averaged 42.9 passes per 90 minutes and has an 86.6% accuracy rate. These include 2.5 passes to the final third and 4.25 to the opposition’s final third per 90 minutes each. The accuracy for passes into the penalty box is 60%.
The player has attempted three crosses per 90 minutes and has a 40% accuracy rate. He has a deadly left foot and tries to find an angle to deliver these crosses. Most of the crosses are delivered around the penalty box.
By using his skills Madueke gets into dangerous goal-scoring positions. He opens an angle for himself and tries to beat the goalkeeper on his near and far post. Madueke averages 4.03 shots per 90 minutes and has a 31.6% accuracy rate. He will look to take better positions inside the penalty box and hit the target on more occasions.
Making recoveries in the attacking area is another asset in Madueke’s game. The player has made nine recoveries in attacking areas in the limited game time.
Overall, Madueke has impressed a lot with his skills and creativity. He is also calm and composed on many occasions. Pochettino will look to use him more and expect goals and assists in the remaining season.
